Places of interest around Lake Geneva

A pleasant climate and stunning scenery: the area around Montreux and Vevey definitely lives up to its reputation as the "Swiss Riviera". But when it comes to places of interest, culture and leisure, the beautiful region also has plenty to offer. Our tips will make your stay by Lake Geneva a memorable experience.

UNESCO wine terraces in Lavaux

The Lavaux region exudes a very special charm that enchants hosts of hiking enthusiasts, gourmets and holidaymakers every year. In 2007, the Lavaux area, which came into being 15,000 years ago, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The kilometres of stone walls and terraces that were built by monks back in the 12th century are home to many excellent wines such as Chasselas, Pinot noir and others with a protected designation of origin label. Whether you are looking for an adventurous hike or a culinary experience: in Lavaux you are sure to find what you are looking for.

GoldenPass Panoramic

Do you want to experience the Switzerland you know from postcards? If so, you should opt for a panoramic ride on the legendary GoldenPass rail route:  in around 2.5 hours, you can set off from Montreux and travel through vineyards and the Alps while taking in stunning views of the scenery and many of Switzerland's lakes. If you have more time, you can even travel as far as Interlaken or Lucerne on the GoldenPass rail route.

Chaplin's World by Grévin

Directly above Vevey and just ten minutes' walk from the hotel, you will find Chaplin's World in the Manoir de Ban, the former residence of the famous actor Charlie Chaplin. Visitors can explore 1,850 square metres dedicated to Chaplin's eventful life full of art, magic and humour. The museum is definitely worth a visit – and not just for fans of the actor.

If you travel as far as Lausanne, you should definitely treat yourself to a boat trip right across "Le Léman". For outings with children, Lausanne's Aquatis is a great choice.
